What happens if I don't complete my physical therapy plan of care?

If you don't complete your plan of care with your physical therapy, it could lead to a variety of consequences depending on your individual situation. Here are a few potential outcomes:

  1. Lack of progress: Physical therapy is designed to help you recover from an injury, manage a chronic condition, or improve your overall physical function. If you don't complete your plan of care, you may not make as much progress as you could have. This could mean that you continue to experience pain, limited mobility, or other symptoms that affect your quality of life.

  2. Increased risk of re-injury: If you don't fully recover from an injury or condition, you may be at a higher risk of re-injury. This could require additional medical treatment, surgery, or an even longer course of physical therapy.

  3. Wasted time and money: Physical therapy can be expensive and time-consuming. If you don't complete your plan of care, you may have spent a significant amount of money and time without achieving the full benefits of the treatment.

  4. Missed opportunities for improvement: Your physical therapist may have identified other areas of your physical function that could be improved with additional treatment. If you don't complete your plan of care, you may miss out on these opportunities to improve your overall health and well-being.

It's important to communicate with your PT if you're struggling or unable to complete your plan of care. We may be able to adjust your treatment plan or provide additional support to help you stay on track.

The biggest result we see is a higher risk of re-injury. Just because you’re pain-free doesn’t mean that you’re out of the woods. We need to improve your durability so you can be confident that the previous injury or pain won’t come back.
